Shortly before 10:00 PM EDT on July 13, 2013, a jury found 29-year-old George Zimmerman not guilty in the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in Sanford, Florida.

Initially, Zimmerman was charged with second degree murder and could have faced a life sentence if he would have been found guilty. Had the jury not been able to find Zimmerman guilty of second degree murder but found him guilty of manslaughter, he could have faced a 30 year prison sentence.
